1.
A Psalm of David. CH: O LORD, who may draw near And make his home in your tent? O who, who is able To dwell on your holy hill? He who is blameless; he who does right; He who speaks truth in his heart. He does not slander men with his tongue He does his neighbor no harm. (chorus) He will not bring shame to his friend. His eyes despise worthless men, He exalts those who fear the LORD. He swears to his hurt; he won’t change! (chorus) He does not ask for more in return When he gives someone a loan. He takes no bribe against honest men. Whoever does this won’t be moved! (chorus x2)
2.
A Song of Ascents. Of David. CH: I rejoiced when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!” I rejoiced when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!” Our feet were standing in your gates, Jerusalem. Jerusalem, built as a city firmly bound as one, To which the tribes, the tribes of the LORD, go up — A decree for Israel — to praise the name of the LORD. For the thrones there for judgment sit: thrones for David’s house! (chorus) Pray now that peace may be upon Jerusalem! May those who cherish you have full security. Peace be within your walls, safety in your towers. For my friends’ and brothers’ sake, I’ll say, “Peace be in you.” For the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good! (chorus x2)
3.
To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. Of David. Hear my cry O God; listen to my prayer. From the end of the earth, I call upon you there. When my heart grows faint, then unto you I cry: Lead me up to the rock that is higher than I! For you have been a refuge unto me, You’re a tower of strength against the enemy. O forever let me in your house abide; May your wings be where I can run and hide. For you, O God, have heard my promises. With those who fear your name you give my heritage. Add unto the king’s days more days yet again, And extend his years to all generations. May he ever dwell before the face of God. With both faithfulness and love appointed to his guard. And to your name I will sing forevermore While I keep my vows all the days of my life.
4.
A Song of Ascents. I lift up my eyes to the mountains, But what is the source of my aid? My help can be found only with the LORD; Both heaven and earth he has made. He never allows for your foot to slip; Your keeper does not go to sleep. See now that the keeper of Israel, He never will slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; on your right hand The LORD as your shade covers you. The sun will not strike you throughout the day, And neither at night will the moon. From all that is evil the LORD keeps you; Your life he will surely keep safe. Both your going out and your coming in The LORD will keep now and always.
5.
To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah. Like a deer longs for streams, so my soul longs for you, God; my soul thirsts for God, for the God who’s alive. O when shall I come and appear before God? My tears are my food both by day and by night, While they say to me all the day, “Where is your God?” These things I remember and pour out my soul: When I went with the throng I would lead them along To God’s house with glad shouts and a thanksgiving song, A multitude keeping festival! CH: Why are you cast down, O my soul? Why are you troubled within me? Hope in God; for I again shall praise him, My salvation and my God. My soul is cast down in me, so I’ll recall You from Jordan and Hermon’s land, from Mizar’s Hill. Deep calls to deep at your waterfalls’ roar. All your breaking waves crashing up over me pass. The LORD daily commands his love; nightly his song Is with me, as a prayer to the God of my life. I ask God, my rock: “Why forget me? Oh why do I grieve in oppression from enemies?” They break my bones, all day taunt me, “Where’s your God?” (chorus) O vindicate me, God! Contend for my cause Against faithless people, and liberate me From anyone who is unjust or tells lies! For you are my God and my refuge. O why Reject me? Why am I oppressed by my foes I am grieving, Oh send out your light and your truth! Let them lead me and bring me to your holy hill, To your home, to your altar, to God my great joy! And on a lyre I’ll praise you, God, my God! (chorus x2)
6.
Of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers come to feed upon my flesh, My enemies and foes: they stumble and fall. Though a force encamps against me, my heart will not fear; Through war I’m confident. One thing I ask from the LORD, that I seek: To dwell in HIS house all the days of my life, To look on the beauty of the LORD, In his temple meditate. For He’ll hide me in his shelter on the troubled day. He will cover me in the cover of his tent. On a rock He’ll lift me high. Now my head will be raised up Above my surrounding foes. And then I will offer in the shelter of his tent My sacrifice, and shouts of joy. And so I will sing out unto the LORD, I will sing in praise. Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud. Be gracious to me, and answer me. You have said, “Seek my face,” and my heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.” Don’t hide yourself from me, or reject me in your wrath. You have been my help; do not cast me off! Don’t ever leave me, my Savior, my God, for my father and mother left. But the LORD will take me in. LORD, teach me your way. Lead me true, because of my foes. Don’t give me up to them, false and violent men; Against me they rise up. I believe that I’ll look on the goodness Of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD! Be strong! Set your heart, And wait for the LORD.
7.
A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite. How much longer LORD — forever? — Will you hide away? How long will your wrath — like fire! — continue to blaze? Remember me! What is my life? Did you create all men in vain? What man can live and not see death, save his soul from the grave? How much longer LORD? Where is your love, Lord — from ancient — which you had sworn? In your faithfulness — to David — Remember, O Lord! How your servants, they are mocked, and my heart by nations crushed. Your enemies mock, Lord, they mock the steps, of your Anointed One. Where is your love, Lord? Blessed be the LORD — forever! — Amen and amen! Blessed be the LORD — forever! — Amen! Amen! Forever I will sing YOUR love! from age to age again My mouth will tell your faithfulness. Amen and amen! Blessed be the LORD! How much longer LORD? Where is your love, Lord? Blessed be the LORD!
8.
To the choirmaster. Of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A Song. God is our refuge and strength, A helper most present in need. Therefore we will not fear, Not even though earth starts to shake! Even though mountains move into the heart, To the heart of the seas, and its waters roar: They will roar! and they will foam! Mountains quake at its swelling pride. There is a river whose streams Bring joy to the city of God, A sanctified dwelling place Of he who is high above all! God remains in her midst; she won’t be moved. God will give help to her when the morning dawns: Nations roar! The kingdoms move! Earth dissolves as he sends his voice! The LORD of hosts, the LORD is right here with us! Our fortress, our fortress Jacob’s God! Come and behold all the works the LORD has done, how he has brought Desolations on earth. To the end of earth he makes wars cease, Breaks the bow, cracks the spear, and with a fire Burns the chariots. “Be still! Know that I am God! I’ll be exalted above the nations! I’ll be exalted over all the earth!” The LORD of hosts, the LORD is right here with us! Our fortress, our fortress Jacob’s God!
9.
A Song of Ascents. Remember, LORD, for David’s sake, His afflictions, ev’ry one! He swore unto the LORD. He vowed To Jacob’s Mighty One: “I will not go into my house. I will not lie in bed. I will not let my eyes have sleep, Or give my eyelids rest, Till I find a place for the LORD; Find a dwelling place for Jacob’s Mighty One.” Look! We heard it there in Ephrathah, Found it there in Jaar’s fields. Let us go up to his dwelling place; Let us bow before his feet. Arise, LORD, to your resting place; With the ark your might! And let your priests wear righteousness; Your people sing delight! For the sake of David your servant, Don’t turn back the face of your Anointed One! The LORD to David swore an oath From which he will not turn: “One from the womb, who is your fruit, I will set upon your throne. If your sons keep my covenant, My law I’ll teach to them Then even their sons evermore Upon your throne will sit.” For the LORD has chosen Zion. He desires to have her for his dwelling place! Forever this will be my rest; Here I’ll dwell as I desire. I’ll bless her food abundantly; Satisfy her poor with bread. Salvation I will give her priests, To cover them like clothes; And then her saints will sing for joy, And David’s power will grow, And a lamp for my Anointed I’ve prepared. I will clothe his foes with shame, But on him his crown will shine.
10.
To the choirmaster: according to the Gittith. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. How lovely your dwelling place, LORD of hosts! My soul longs and faints even for the LORD’s courts! My heart and my flesh to the living God sing! A sparrow will there find a home. A swallow a nest also has for herself, And there with your altars her young she has laid. My king and my God, LORD of Hosts, they are blessed Who dwell in your house; they will praise you again ! And blessed is the man who finds his strength in you; In their heart there are highways. As they journey on, The Valley of Baca they make like a spring; It also is covered with blessings by rain. From strength unto strength they will walk, then appear Before God At Zion. O LORD, God of Hosts, Attend to my prayer; God of Jacob, give ear. O God see our shield; Your Messiah’s face view! Because just one day spent inside of your courts Is better by far than one thousand removed. To stand, O my God, at the door of your house, I’d choose over living in tents full of sin. Because the LORD God is a sun and a shield, The LORD will give glory and grace. From those walking rightly no good will refuse — O blessed is the man, LORD of hosts, who trusts in you!
